While flying insect pollinators are all a-buzz in the sunlight over the wild marjoram, there are still small quantities of yellow Ladies’ Bedstraw, Toadflax is beginning to open, as well as a few remaining Knapweeds available for nectar gathering. Many of the flowers on taller stemmed plants from a month ago are developing seeds now.

‘Knapweeds’ sounds like ‘nice weeds’ or could it be that it is weeds that give a clicking sound? Or is it the North American herb of the Cleome genus of the family Cleomaceae (clammyweed)?
Common Knapweed (Centaurea nigra) and Greater Knapweed (Centaurea scabiosa) are common and widespread in the UK and in NW France and Low Countries. Unlike Yellow Rattle, there is no particular noise associated with it.
